Heard a guy at the game store say 'real gamers don't play co-op' and it got me mad
I was picking up a copy of Pandemic Legacy at my local shop, The Dragon's Hoard, last Saturday. A guy in line behind me was talking loud to his friend, saying that co-op games are just 'group puzzles' and that competitive play is the only true test of skill. He said, 'If you're not trying to beat the other people at the table, you're not really playing a game.' I've been in this hobby for over fifteen years, and that kind of gatekeeping is what pushes new people away. Some of my best game nights have been spent fighting a common enemy in games like Spirit Island or The Crew. It builds a different kind of fun, working together under pressure. Why do some folks feel the need to make rules about what counts as a real board game? Has anyone else run into this kind of narrow thinking at their local meetups?
