Dice tower vs dice tray, picked the cheap route and now my group won't shut up
Last month I was torn between a $60 wooden dice tower and a $12 felt tray from a local shop in Austin. I went with the tray because my group already knocks over drinks weekly, and a tower just felt like a spill magnet waiting to happen. Turns out the tray works great, but now everyone argues over who gets to roll in it because the felt is so quiet. My buddy Dave says it's ruined him for any table that doesn't have one. Anyone else had a cheap fix that made your players weirdly territorial?

...and honestly that felt tray thing is a blessing and a curse because now my buddy Marcus refuses to roll anywhere but on my old mousepad that I glued to a clipboard. He says it gives him "the proper bounce" and I'm like dude that thing has coffee stains older than my marriage. Last week someone brought a new set of dice and Marcus nearly lost it because the bag crinkled too loud. We had to move the whole game to the kitchen table because the dining room floorboards make a creak that he swears throws off his rolls. Some people just need a routine I guess, but I'm starting to think the real dice tower was never the problem.
