Vent: My neighbor saw my 'patched' drywall and laughed for a solid minute
I was trying to fix a hole from a doorknob in my hallway last week. I watched a quick video, grabbed some spackle, and went to town. I thought it looked fine, a little lumpy maybe. Then my neighbor Dave, who's a contractor, stopped by to borrow a ladder. He took one look at my wall, pointed at my repair, and just started laughing. He finally caught his breath and said, 'Buddy, that's not a patch, that's modern art. You didn't sand anything, did you?' I hadn't. I just globbed it on and painted over it. It looked okay wet, but dried into this weird, shiny blob. He was right, it was a total mess. The whole thing made me realize I skip the boring prep steps every single time and it always bites me. Anyone else have a project that looked perfect until it dried?
