Update: A guy at the library asked me how to find the 'Ask Anything' section

I was at the downtown branch yesterday, grabbing a book on local history (you know, for a project). This older gentleman walked right up to me, pointed at the community bulletin board, and said, 'Excuse me, young man, where is the Ask Anything section? I have a question about my tomato plants.' I had to explain it's an online forum, not a physical place. He just nodded slowly and said, 'So it's like the library, but in the air?' Has anyone else had to explain what an online community actually is to someone in person?

My cordless clipper battery died mid-fade on a Saturday rush

Right in the middle of a skin fade, the thing just quit. Had to scramble and grab my old corded Wahl Super Tapers from the back to finish. Anyone have a good brand for reliable lithium batteries that don't give out like that?

My wife and I used to watch shows one episode a week, now we wait and do a whole season in a weekend

We stuck to the old TV schedule for years, even with streaming. Then last winter we tried 'The Bear' and binged all of season 2 in two days. It just hit different, like watching a long movie. Now we plan our weekends around a new show and a big bag of popcorn. Anyone else find they enjoy shows more this way?

Last month, I had three night shifts in a row where every patient was in a bad way, and I felt like I was just putting out fires. On the third night, a family member pulled me aside and said, 'You're the only one who keeps checking on him.' That simple comment, after 72 hours of feeling beat, flipped a switch for me. It made me see that the hard parts are where you actually matter most. Has anyone else had a rough patch that made you stick with your job, not leave it?

Saw a loose labrador near a busy road in Columbus. I parked my car sideways to block a lane instead of running after it. Was that the right call or did I create more danger?

Hot take: The old trick with a heat gun and a zip tie saved a $15k unit from the scrap pile

We had a stubborn LRU from a Citation that kept failing its self-test, showing a vague 'processor fault' code. The box was set for removal and a $15k replacement. I remembered a guy in Denver years ago saying he'd fixed a similar issue by carefully warming the whole board to reflow a cold solder joint you couldn't even see. I figured we had nothing to lose. I pulled the card cage, set my heat gun on low, and slowly moved it over the main board for about 90 seconds, just enough to get it warm to the touch. Then I took a plastic zip tie and gently pressed down on every single connector and socketed chip while the board was still warm. Let it cool, ran the test, and it passed. Been flying for 6 months now with no repeat. Has anyone else pulled off a similar 'last resort' fix that actually held up?

Update: Looking back at how I learned coding with help from family

When I first tried to write code, my brother would sit with me and explain things step by step. He used simple examples from his own start with HTML and JavaScript. Now, I see new coders getting instant replies on forums from people they never met. Back in the day, if I had a problem, I had to wait until someone was free to help me in person. I remember feeling proud when I fixed a bug with his advice, something I still tell beginners today. It's cool how learning code has changed, but the need for a helping hand stays the same.
