Rant: went with the 3 jaw chuck over the 4 jaw on a wobbly shaft casting and it bit me
Had a batch of 60 rough cast shafts at the shop in Gary and the boss said just grab whatever chuck was already mounted, so I skipped the 4 jaw and ran the 3 jaw to save setup time. Took me an extra 40 minutes of messing with shims on the first three parts because nothing sat true, and two pieces came out .015 out of round before I switched over anyway. Should I just keep the 4 jaw bolted up for rough castings from now on or is there a trick to dialing in a 3 jaw I'm missing?
