inFound a sweet looking floor lamp on the curb, it almost burned my house down
My buddy's vintage lamp sparked and smoked the second he plugged it in, exactly like @nathan_foster60 said.

inI finally understood what my old foreman meant about 'listening to the cut' after a quiet morning in the Cincinnati shop.
My old boss said the same thing, and I used to think it was nonsense until I heard the difference myself.

inMy lead crystal decanter shattered on set right before the big dinner scene
Read an article about this exact thing. It talked about how quick fixes often fail because they skip the basics. Totally agree with @fiona_scott44. Saw a story where someone used tape instead of a proper clamp on a wood project. Whole thing fell apart in a week. That rush to finish just makes more work later. Patience really is a tool you have to choose to use.

inRemember when you had to guess a misfire?
Forget the code reader, I miss the old sound. My dad could walk past a running V8 and just hear which cylinder was lazy. He'd put a long screwdriver on each injector and feel the click. Now it's all graphs and numbers, which is cool, but that raw feel for the engine is gone.

inUpdate: I swapped the governor rope on a 15 story lift and the car started moving during the test.
Did your heart drop faster than the car did?
