Shoutout to the salon owner who let me try a bold cut on a regular client last Friday
Everyone in my chair lately wants the same safe, long layers, but Mrs. Jenkins, who comes in every six weeks, finally said 'surprise me'. I gave her a sharp, chin-length bob with a razor. She LOVED it, but two other stylists said it was 'too much' for our usual crowd. It was the most fun I've had in months. Do you ever feel pressured to play it safe with regulars?

Totally get that pressure to stick with what's expected. It's so frustrating when you know you can do something amazing but the shop vibe pushes for boring. Those stylists were probably just scared because it looked different than the usual. Good for you for giving your client a real change she loved, that's the whole point of the job sometimes. Playing it safe all the time just makes the day drag on forever.

Oh man, I know that feeling! I always snap a quick pic of the client smiling right after a bold cut. It shuts down the doubters when they see how happy it made someone.

Yeah, that reminds me of a client who always wanted the same boring paint color until I showed her a sample of something bold. @amyc22 is right about the day dragging when you play it safe. Sometimes people just need a little push to try something new.
