TIL my friend's board game collection went from a single shelf to a whole room in under a year

I went over to his place last weekend and legit didn't recognize the basement. A year ago, it was just a couch, a TV, and one IKEA Kallax with maybe 15 games. Now? The entire back wall is floor-to-ceiling shelves, packed. He's got like 300 games, organized by player count and weight. The change happened after he joined a local game design group and started playtesting every week. He said, 'Once you start seeing how the mechanics fit together, you just want to experience all of them.' The wild part is he built the shelves himself over a single weekend in March. Has anyone else had a friend's hobby just completely explode like that? What kicked it off for them?
