Everyone says to add fiber mesh to every slab, but I've seen more cracks with it when the subgrade prep is sloppy.

My cousin's driveway we poured last year had fiber mesh, but the base was just gravel tossed over mud. Now it looks like a spiderweb every time it freezes. I was the one who said the prep was fine, so I guess I'm the reason for all those cracks. Learned the hard way that mesh can't fix a bad foundation, no matter how much you hope it will.

My buddy tried to skip proper compaction on his patio slab, thinking the fibers would save it. The whole thing shifted and cracked within a season. It really is all about that base.

Sounds like the fiber mesh was working overtime trying to hold that together. Should've given it a hard hat and a union contract.
