Was looking up how to fix a texture glitch in an old WAD I'm working on and stumbled onto a thread from like 2003. Someone was complaining about how hard it was to get people to test your map since you had to email the .wad file around. I mean, now we just upload to Discord and get feedback in minutes. It's wild how simple stuff like file sharing used to be a whole project. Has anyone else dug through old posts and felt that weird mix of progress and loss?
I started messing with Doom modding back in 2018 and my first map was just a box with a shotgun and 50 imps. It took me until last month to finally finish a full 32 level WAD for Doom 2. The difference between that first ugly map and the last one I made is insane like night and day. I think watching YouTube tutorials by Decino and Chubzdoomer really helped me level up my texture alignment and lighting. The final version has proper sector detail and actual flow instead of just teleporting you into a monster closet. Anyone else go back to their early modding attempts and cringe at how rough they look?
