inI was wrong about those digital-only comics
That part about pacing around the block really got me. I heard somewhere that listening to stories while moving around actually helps you focus better. I did the same thing with a podcast series about old sailing ships a few months back. Ended up walking way more than I needed to just to finish one more episode. It's funny how things you thought would never work for you end up being your favorites.

inVeteran mechanic told me to stop using WD-40 on chains, I didn't listen for 8 months
That 500 mile chain replacement is rough... I had the same thing happen on my old Schwinn touring bike back in 2018. @dixon.willow the thing with weekly WD-40 is it cleans off the factory grease inside the rollers but doesn't have enough viscosity to stay put and protect the pins. WD-40 is really a water displacer not a lubricant for bike chains... it just evaporates too fast and leaves the chain dry.

inI found a CD from 1998 in a gas station bargain bin and it changed my whole week
@sanchez.mia nailed it with "your gear created a unique version." I once drove around for a week thinking a song had a sick distorted synth solo. Turns out my aux cord was half broken and it was just pure static. Still miss that version every time I hear the clean one. Your broken setup might be the better producer than some actual producers out there.

inShoutout to the Micro Center clerk who saved my build from a dead PSU
Oh, you're one of those people who thinks the Micro Center guy is infallible. That "older dude with a beard" probably sold me a power supply three years ago that died after 6 months and he blamed it on my house wiring. Look, those clerks see a lot of returns but they don't see the ones that work fine in a hundred other builds. I've had a guy talk me out of a perfectly good motherboard because he had a "bad feeling" about the chipset. Ended up with a more expensive board that had the exact same features and same performance. He was just pushing the brand the store makes more money on. Also that "testing report" he showed you? Anyone can bookmark a forum post from some random guy who fried his PSU during a lightning storm. I'd rather trust the warranty stats than some clerk's phone screenshots. These employees get commission or at least a pat on the back for steering people to certain brands. I'm not saying they're always wrong, but acting like they saved your build from certain death is a bit much. Most of the time a dead PSU just means you RMA it and wait a week, not that your whole motherboard explodes. People act like every wrong part choice is a fire hazard.

inI finally dug out a 1999 article that said the internet was a fad
The confidence people had back then is wild. They really thought the internet was a passing phase, like a hula hoop or something. I mean, look at us now, we can't even go to the bathroom without our phones. That Newsweek article you mentioned sounds like a time capsule of bad guesses. What cracks me up is how certain they were, like they had a crystal ball that was just broken. Makes you wonder what we're all so sure about today that'll sound dumb in twenty years, right?
