inHonestly, I used to think those expensive linen threads were a total waste of money. A client in Portland last month changed my mind completely.
Ha, I was right there with you. My cheap thread looked like a bird's nest after one wash. So much for being a smart shopper.

inThe week we found a Roman coin hoard in a Sussex field, but then the argument started about whether to dig it all up or leave some for later.
Leave some for later, the tech will only get better.

inA guy at the Montana fair showed me a trick with a wet burlap sack
Yeah, that wet burlap trick is solid. It's basically a cheap way to make a steam blanket, which keeps the heat in and lets the piece cool down evenly. I've used soaked welding blankets for the same thing on bigger projects, like when you're trying to avoid warping a whole frame section. The key is just keeping the air off it so it doesn't cool in spots. That old farrier knew his stuff, lol.

inOverheard a homeowner in Dallas call their alarm panel a 'glorified doorbell'
My old boss in Austin used to call it the system's mailbox. I thought that was dumb until I had to explain a trouble signal to a customer. I said the panel is like your home's mailbox, it collects all the letters from the sensors, sorts them, and then sends the important ones to the monitoring station. That clicked for them way more than calling it the brain.

inTbh that herringbone pattern in the entryway took me 3 days to get right
Yeah, a chalk line snapped dead center of the room was my only saving grace. It gives you a solid guide to keep those first rows from walking off course. Once you get that first triangle locked in, the rest just sort of falls into place.
