So I finally ran a storage analyzer on my laptop last night and found 14GB of stuff in a folder called 'URGENT backups 2019'. Turns out it was mostly screenshots of error messages and half-finished documents. I literally sat there for 20 minutes scrolling through them and every single one was useless. Has anyone else dug into an old folder and realized your past self was just hoarding junk with dramatic labels?
Everyone here brags about purging inboxes to zero, but I sat in my office in Austin last month during an audit and needed a receipt from 2021 that would have been gone if I followed that advice. The search took 30 seconds and saved me a $200 penalty. Am I wrong for thinking storage is cheap enough that hoarding old emails is actually a smart backup strategy?
Went through my camera roll last night and found 14 screenshots of the same Amazon page from 2019, all showing a $29 reading lamp I never bought. That led me down a rabbit hole of clearing out 6 GB of blurry concert photos and expired boarding passes. Is anyone else finding weird time capsules like this, or am I just the only one who screenshots everything twice?
Clearing out my old phone backups last week and hit a folder with 400 blurry screenshots of gas station prices and grocery totals. Did anyone else actually keep these things for a reason, or were we all just hoarding pixels we knew we'd never look at?
So I finally got around to cleaning out my desk drawer and found this busted SD card from like 2012. I popped it into a cheap reader I keep for work stuff and somehow the thing still read. Turns out it had 9,000 photos on it, mostly blurry selfies from my old flip phone era, plus like 200 screenshots of silly text convos I totally forgot about. I spent a whole afternoon laughing and cringing at my 22 year old self, then deleted every single one because there's no way I need that energy back. The funny fail part is I accidentally kept one screenshot of a recipe for spaghetti that I can't even read because it's cropped weird. Has anyone else found a time capsule like that and just nuked it without regret?
I had like 14k photos sitting in a folder called 'Misc' going back to 2016. Was showing a friend something and he said 'how do you ever find anything in here'. Honestly that hit different. Spent the next 3 weekends sorting by year and event names. Found 800 duplicates too. Do you guys use a naming system or just let folders pile up and deal with it later?
