Contrarian take: I keep 5 years of emails on purpose
Everyone here brags about purging inboxes to zero, but I sat in my office in Austin last month during an audit and needed a receipt from 2021 that would have been gone if I followed that advice. The search took 30 seconds and saved me a $200 penalty. Am I wrong for thinking storage is cheap enough that hoarding old emails is actually a smart backup strategy?

My old boss got hit with a $500 fine for missing a contractor invoice from 3 years back, so I feel you on this. I keep all my emails too, but I set up folders by year and tag anything with a dollar amount or a date attached to it. Storage is basically free these days, so the only real downside is finding stuff fast, which a simple search bar already handles for you.
