Tried biking to work in a thunderstorm for the planet, ended up a soggy hero

So last Tuesday I decided to really commit to my no-car week, even though the forecast looked grim. I figured a little rain never hurt anyone, right? Well, about halfway through my 3 mile ride, the sky just opened up. I'm talking sideways rain, wind trying to steal my backpack, the whole deal. I had to pull over under a bus shelter, completely drenched, watching my reusable coffee cup fill with rainwater. The funniest part was this guy in a giant truck stopped at the light, rolled down his window, and just gave me a slow clap while shaking his head. I got to the office looking like a drowned rat, but my bike was safe and I didn't burn any gas. Has anyone else had a climate action plan spectacularly backfire in a hilarious way?

Just realized my 'green' lawn was a huge water waste

I was watering my Kentucky bluegrass for 20 minutes every morning in July, and my neighbor in Tucson asked me why I was trying to grow a swamp. That one comment made me look up how much water non-native grass really uses, and I felt pretty dumb. Has anyone else switched to a xeriscape or native plants and seen their water bill drop?

Vent: My home energy audit turned into a two month project

I thought it would be a weekend thing, but finding and sealing all the air leaks in my old Chicago bungalow took way longer. The infrared camera showed drafts I never would have guessed, like around the old fireplace. Anyone else have a simple climate fix that snowballed?

My bike-only pledge met its match with a week of downpours

I swore off driving to reduce my carbon footprint and committed to cycling. Of course, that was the week we got record rainfall, and I arrived at work looking like a drowned rat every day. My backpack wasn't waterproof, so all my papers got ruined. Ended up calling for rides half the time, which kinda defeated the whole point.

Planning a cross-country trip and worried about my carbon footprint

I'm organizing a family road trip from coast to coast this summer. In my experience, long drives use a lot of gas, which isn't great for the climate.
