A sloped patio in Charlotte taught me to double-check my string lines before the first course

My cousin had a similar mess with a long garden wall. He started using these little plastic line tighteners you hook onto the stakes, says they lock the string in place so it can't slip. He also runs a second, higher string as a reference line just in case the working line moves. The extra step seems to save him a ton of headache and rework.

Vent: I lost a full day and $400 on a paint job because I trusted a cheap digital color reader

Was it one of those generic bluetooth ones? Those things are basically toys for hobbyists. The good scanners need a direct connection and cost way more than 150 bucks. You paid the real price in labor and materials.

Pro tip: I was cleaning flux off boards with a toothbrush for years before a guy at the Reno swap meet showed me his ultrasonic tank.

The real trick is finding the right cleaning solution. Some of that stuff can eat right through cheap boards if you're not careful.

Warning: A clogged suction line on the 'Mississippi Queen' took us 14 hours to clear because we didn't check the trash rack upstream.

Trash rack upstream" - you guys have a camera on it now?

I used to hammer everything at a bright orange heat. Now I wait for a dull red.

Yeah my buddy had the same thing happen... he was always rushing his blades and they'd come out brittle. Started waiting for that dull red like you said and now his stuff holds an edge way better.
