My old boss in Dallas swore we only needed 100 Mbps for our whole office, and I believed him for 8 months
Back in 2022 I ran IT for a 22 person office near downtown Dallas and my boss kept saying 100 Mbps was plenty because that's what his house had. Every afternoon around 2pm our VoIP calls turned into robots and the shared drive crawled, so I kept blaming the ISP and they kept sending techs out who found nothing wrong. I finally pulled the logs and saw we were peaking at 97 Mbps with 40 devices on the network, plus two people streaming music all day. Boss still fought it, so I unplugged the guest wifi for one afternoon and call quality was perfect, which made him a believer real fast. We moved to a 500 Mbps fiber plan for $80 more per month and never dropped a call again. Anyone else had a boss who thinks home internet numbers scale to an office?
