inStopping myself from attending every industry conference paid off big time
Fr, picking your conferences is key. They suck up so much time for little return. Going only when you have a clear goal saves your sanity. The need to be visible is overrated and exhausting. I burned out trying to attend everything. Now I focus on what matters and my work is way better.

inShoutout to my crew for keeping an eye on the mix
That line about a crew catching stuff is so true. My friend was pouring a concrete slab for his shed last summer. He had the whole frame set and was about to fill it when one of his buddies just quietly pointed at the level. The whole thing was on a slight slope because the ground had settled overnight. They fixed it in ten minutes. If he'd poured it, that shed floor would have been tilted forever. It really shows how a second set of eyes saves everything.

inMy shift away from mesquite after learning about its environmental impact
I read an article that said managed oak forests can support more wildlife if they're mixed with other trees. But it depends on how they're managed, right? Sometimes they just plant rows of oaks and call it good, which doesn't help much. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of calling it eco-friendly? I heard from a forester that real benefits come from mimicking natural growth patterns.
