Saying e-statements "saved" you money makes it sound like a discount. They charge you for the paper ones, that's the trick.

Exactly what xena_kim82 said, it's a total mind game. They make the free option the default and then punish you for wanting paper. My old bank charged $3 a month for mailed statements, which adds up over a year. How is printing a few pages worth that much?
