inHad a run of bad luck fixing rangefinders last Tuesday in Austin
Man, I feel that pain deep in my soul. Last month I had three Leica M3s in a row with stuck RF cam rollers and I nearly threw one of them through a wall.

inPSA: Had a switch port go bad and it took me 6 hours to figure it out
I had a similar problem last year with an old Cisco SG200. Port 12 started dropping packets after about an hour of uptime. Like you said, standard diagnostics showed nothing wrong. I had to just label that port dead and move everything to another one. And I agree with craig.parker about checking for bent pins first, but in my case it was internal and nothing I could fix.

inThat old farmer who showed me how to start a dead engine with a leather belt
Man I had almost the exact same thing happen with an old Farmall M that wouldn't fire. This rancher out near Amarillo saw me messing with the starter and just shook his head. He pulled a piece of baling twine out of his pickup, wrapped it around the pulley, and had that thing chugging in about 20 seconds. Made me feel like a city kid who never saw a wrench before. Still keep a roll of that twine in my glove box just in case.

inSpent $600 on a digital level and it paid for itself on one job
Man I bought one of those Bosch digital levels a few years back and my foreman literally laughed at me on the first job. Called it a toy. Then I hung a whole row of kitchen cabinets in like 45 minutes while he was still chasing his bubble around with a level on the second cabinet. It paid for itself that same day honestly. I felt like a real dummy dropping the cash at first but now I cant imagine going back to the old way.
