Old coleman stove vs the new one i got last month

I finally retired my dad's old Coleman two burner from the 80s last month. It still worked but the rust was getting bad and one of the knobs broke off. I picked up a newer model for like $80 and figured it would be an upgrade. Man, the new one just doesn't heat as evenly and the little wind guards are flimsy plastic instead of metal. Took it on a trip up to Lake Tahoe and couldn't even boil water in a breeze. Anyone else find the older gear just holds up way better?

You know, I used to think people were just being nostalgic about old gear, but your point about the "flimsy plastic" wind guards really hit home. I had an old camp stove from the 90s that I gave away because I wanted something newer and lighter. My newer one is awesome until any wind picks up, then I'm basically just wasting fuel. The metal parts on the old one were SO much sturdier and the heat distribution was way better. It's kind of disappointing because I really thought the technology would have improved by now, not gotten cheaper.

Hang on though, has anyone actually weighed the two? I bet that old metal beast was PRETTY heavy but the new one might be losing heat because they shaved off too much material. Sometimes heavier just means better heat retention, not just "old and clunky.
