Saw a first-year apprentice's weld from 6 months ago versus now - night and day difference
I was helping out at a job site in Gary, Indiana last week and one of the younger guys showed me his first-ever bead from last January. It was all bird crap and undercut, looked like a pigeon walked through it. He showed me one he did last Thursday on a 3/8 plate and it was clean and even. What changed was he finally stopped fighting the machine and started listening to the puddle instead of watching the flux. Any of you guys notice a big jump in your own work around the 6 month mark?

You almost spit out your coffee? Come on man, bird crap is a REAL thing. Have you ever parked under a tree on a summer day? Those seagulls and pigeons are like flying toilets. It's not a joke when you're walking downtown and a flock goes over. I've seen whole car hoods covered in it. People act like it's just water or something but that stuff is seriously gross. You gotta watch where you're standing or you'll be scraping it off your shoulder later.
