Started rewatching this old British spy show from the 90s after hearing people gush about it for years. The first episode was just a guy in a bad suit talking on a phone for what felt like an hour. gotta push back a little, the lens itself is actually decent for the price. the "same story" thing is more about the coating and build quality, which are fine if you're not pixel peeping. i've shot with it in harsh light and it holds up, but yeah, the autofocus motor sounds like a dying squirrel.

Turns out the actual trick is treating it like a librarian who's had way too much coffee and knows everything but won't just give you the answer without making you work for it. I tried the reference desk thing with a work project and ended up down a rabbit hole of old research papers I didn't even know existed. It's definitely slower than just typing "what's the answer" and getting a paragraph, but I feel like I actually understand the thing now instead of just copy pasting. Though I'll admit, sometimes I just want the quick answer so I can move on with my life. So yeah, it's useful, but it's also a bit like asking for directions and getting a map instead of just being told to turn left.

That 12uF reading is the thing that bugs me. My old Fluke would show 11.8 and hold steady, and these cheap ones tend to bounce around depending on how you hold the leads. I've seen a buddy of mine get totally different numbers on the same cap just by flipping it over. So you might be right, or you might just be fixing a fridge that had a bad relay anyway. If the tester was truly junk, you wouldn't have found anything, so that's something. But I'd still verify any bad reading with a known good meter before I order a part.
