I finally stopped designing for trends and started designing for my own body type

For years I tried to make boxy oversized tops work because that's what everyone was posting on Pinterest and Instagram. But I'm 5'2 with a short torso and those silhouettes just made me look like a kid wearing my dad's clothes. Around 6 months ago I had this moment at a thrift store in Portland where I tried on a vintage 80s blazer that actually fit my shoulders and waist, and it clicked. Now I draft all my patterns to nip in at the natural waist and keep proportions closer to 7/8 length. It feels counter to what the fashion influencers push but I actually wear what I make now instead of letting it sit in a drawer. Has anyone else ditched the trending silhouette completely for what actually flatters their frame?

Just fell through a rotten floor at an old church in Ohio

I was exploring this abandoned Methodist church outside Cincinnati last weekend. I stepped on what looked like solid floorboards but they gave way under my left foot. I went down about 2 feet before my camera bag caught on a joist and stopped me. Managed to pull myself out with just a bruised shin and ripped jeans. The floor was totally rotted through from years of water damage. Has anyone else had a close call like that where your gear saved you from worse?

Overheard a stylist at the supply store say sectioning is overrated

She swore she just grabs hair and clips it anywhere. Tried it on a balayage yesterday, took me twice as long to fix the uneven sections. Anyone else think sectioning is actually worth the extra minute?

That creepypasta channel changed after 3 months of weird static videos

I've been watching this channel called "Fogline Transmissions" for about 4 months now. At first it was just random static clips with faint voices, nothing special. But around week 8, I noticed the static started forming patterns that looked like old security footage of empty hallways. Now at month 4, the videos have clear images of a man standing in the same hallway every time, and his position gets closer to the camera each video. Has anyone else tracked a channel like this where the content slowly evolved into something clearly staged or maybe not?

I finally broke 500 foil wraps during a busy Saturday shift last month. My record before that was 380 and my wrist was sore for two days. Has anyone else pushed past a personal best and found a trick to keep the pace without cramping up?

My neighbor convinced me to stop using wood glue on sloppy joints

I used to just fill gaps with extra wood glue when cabinet frames didn't fit tight. Last Tuesday my neighbor Bob watched me do it and said "you're just making a mess for later, use shims and a clamp." I grabbed a pack of plastic shims from Ace Hardware for $4 and now my joints actually line up. Has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit from being impatient?

Everyone told me to start with solar panels, but my heat pump water heater made the real difference

I live in a cold climate and my gas water heater was a huge part of my bill. People in my local climate group said solar was the only real solution, but the upfront cost was too high. I got a heat pump water heater installed 8 months ago instead for about $2,500 after rebates. My electric bill only went up $10 a month, and I'm saving over $40 a month on gas, so it pays for itself. It cut my home's gas use by nearly 30% right away. Has anyone else found a smaller upgrade that had a bigger impact than expected?

Tried a new pointing technique on a chimney in Boise and the difference was crazy

Honestly, I saw this old timer using a technique called 'tuck pointing' with a special hawk and a 3/8 inch jointer. The chimney looked rough before, but after he finished a 20 foot section, the lines were so clean and sharp. Ngl, I've been using a bag mortar gun for years and never got results like that. Has anyone else switched from a gun to traditional tools for detail work?

Hold up, are people really getting worked up about this? Someone called it a fancy to-do list and now we need to defend it? Look, I get it, it's a cool system and all, but at the end of the day it's just a notebook with some colored pens and a few boxes. If the guy at the coffee shop doesn't care, why waste the energy trying to convince him? It's like getting mad at someone for not liking the same kind of pizza you do. Plenty of folks keep their lives together with a basic sticky note on their fridge. Maybe just let people think what they want and move on.

I read somewhere that draft horses actually have steeper coffin bones than lighter breeds, so that upright hoof thing makes total sense with why the angle threw you off. Glad that big guy didn't hold a grudge, man.

idk, is it really that deep? Tape measures stretch a little over time but it's not like it's gonna give you a wildly wrong measurement unless you're building a spaceship or something.
