Warning: caught a neighbor's Ring camera picking up my panel test signals

I was doing a routine panel test at a house near Cleveland last Tuesday and noticed the neighbor's Ring floodlight kept blinking every time I triggered the alarm signal. Turns out the smart home cameras are picking up the RF bursts from old wireless sensors and can basically snoop on when systems are active. Anyone else had to deal with customers complaining about privacy concerns from smart home devices picking up alarm signals?

Warning: that fancy $150 tile wet saw I bought barely cut straight out of the box

Lost a whole weekend and 60 bucks in broken tiles trying to get perfect cuts on my bathroom floor, has anyone else had better luck with a cheap snap cutter instead?

Caught myself folding my t-shirts into perfect rectangles for 10 years before a buddy asked why I even bother

He said they all end up crumpled in two seconds anyway and I realized I've been wasting like 15 minutes a week on something nobody sees. Anyone else got a chore they keep doing out of habit that makes no real difference?

Hot take: I finally ditched my old clippers in favor of shears for mens cuts

I used to only use clippers for guys because it's fast and easy. But last month a client asked for a scissor cut and I was nervous. Tried it out on a regular who gets the same fade every time and he said it was the best haircut I've ever given him. Now I'm second guessing everything, has anyone else made the switch and stuck with it?

I finally saw a farm fence done right out in Lancaster County

Was delivering a package out in Amish country near Bird-in-Hand last Tuesday and noticed this beautiful post and rail fence. They used locust posts and white oak rails, all hand-split. The posts were set at exactly 8 feet apart from what I could pace off, and the joints were tight even after what looked like years of weather. Made me think about how I rush my own builds sometimes. You guys ever take a detour just to inspect someone else's fence work?

I finally fixed a sticky door call button at the mall food court

Was grabbing lunch at the Laketown Mall yesterday and saw the elevator call button was stuck again for like the 3rd time this month. Spent my break cleaning the contacts and adjusting the spring tension - been solid for 24 hours now lol. Anyone else have to deal with those moisture issues in high-traffic spots?

Realized my spoke tension gauge was off after 2 years

Last week I was truing a wheel on a customer's old touring bike and kept getting weird readings. Double checked against my Park Tool gauge and the difference was wild, probably 15kgf off on every spoke. I think I dropped it on the concrete floor of my garage back in 2021 and never recalibrated. Has anyone else had one of these go out of whack from a simple drop?

Old timer told me to stop using cheap NM staples and he was right

Back in 2018 I was wiring up a new house in Cleveland with a 70 year old master electrician. He saw me using those thin little plastic staples from Home Depot and said "those will crack and fail in 5 years, get the bigger insulated ones." I figured he was just being old fashioned. Fast forward to last month when I was troubleshooting a short in that same house and found three of those staples had snapped right through the sheathing. Cost me 4 hours to re-pull those circuits through the attic. Has anyone else had trouble with those budget cable staples holding up over time?

Spent 3 hours trying to fix a mitre saw fence that was off by 2 degrees

I got a used DeWalt mitre saw from a guy near Cleveland and the fence was way out of square. I figured it'd be a quick adjust with a speed square and 10 minutes. Three hours later I was still tweaking set screws and the thing kept drifting because the base plate was slightly bent. Ended up shimming it with a thin piece of aluminum from a beer can. Has anyone else dealt with a crooked fence that just refuses to hold a setting? I'm about to just buy a new saw.
