Vent: A guy at the scrapyard made me rethink my whole wiring approach
Was grabbing a alternator for my 87 Civic yesterday and this older fella pointed at my rats nest of zip ties and electrical tape under the hood. Said "you're saving 20 bucks now, but that tape is gonna cost you 200 when it shorts through the firewall." He showed me his own rig, all loom and proper grommets, stuff that costs maybe 30 bucks total. Hit different because I've been bragging about my $50 total build budget but never counted the tow truck call I needed last spring when a wire rubbed raw. Anyone else cheap out on wiring supplies and regret it later?

Man that old timer knew his stuff. I burned up a whole alternator harness on my 91 Ranger last year because I was too lazy to spend 12 bucks on split loom. The wire chafed against a bracket for months and I ignored the flickering dash lights till it finally grounded out and killed my battery on the interstate. Cost me 90 bucks for a tow plus 60 for a used harness, so I feel your pain on that tape and zip tie trap.
