That Tuesday a lightning strike fried three panels and a keypad
Back in 2019 I had a morning where two service calls turned into a full afternoon replacing a dead panel, a blown keypad, and a fried transformer at a church in Akron. The customer was calm about it, but I lost almost $400 in parts before lunch and had to rewire the whole zone layout because the surges took out the phone line too. Has anyone else dealt with that kind of surge damage where the main board looks fine but everything downstream is toast?
Man that church job sounds brutal, losing $400 before lunch is rough. I feel you on the hidden surge damage too. Last year a storm took out a neighbor's outdoor lighting controller but the main panel looked perfect, every single fixture had a blown driver though. It took me like three trips to figure out because each one died at a different time over the next week. That's the sneaky part with surges, they don't always kill everything at once, sometimes it shows up days later when you think you're done. Hope you didn't have to eat the whole cost on that one.
