Talked to a retired diesel tech about using air tools on every bolt and he said I was ruining my torque wrenches

He told me to break bolts loose with a ratchet first and save the air gun for stuff that actually needs it, now I'm wondering how many of my thread repairs could have been avoided by that one tip-has anyone else wrecked a torque wrench by using it like an impact?

Debate: Did I waste $400 on that expensive paint gun or was it worth it?

I dropped $400 on a higher end HVLP gun for a big job last week thinking it would cut down on my orange peel. But my old $80 harbor freight gun was actually laying down the paint just as smooth after I dialed in my air pressure. Has anyone else gone high end on a tool and regretted it or am I just not using it right?

Found a weird trick for hiding PSU cables without spending money

Last weekend I was talking to my buddy Mike who builds crazy PCs for LAN parties, and he mentioned he uses double sided tape to route cables behind the motherboard tray instead of those expensive cable combs. I always thought you had to buy zip ties or velcro strips, but he showed me how he just sticks the cables flat against the metal with basic 3M tape from the dollar store. It took me maybe 20 minutes to redo my whole build, and now the side panel actually closes without bulging out. The tape holds fine even in a warm case because the PSU cables don't get that hot. Has anyone else tried something simple like this that saved you like $30 on modding supplies?

Struggled with chain noise on my old 9-speed, then switched chains and it was night and day

I was having this constant chain noise on my 2009 Trek 1.5 no matter how much I lubed and adjusted the derailleur. Tried a KMC Z99 chain for $28 instead of the Shimano one I always used, and the noise just vanished. The difference was in the inner plate shaping, I guess, but it's way smoother shifting now too. Anybody else seen a big change just from swapping chain brands?

Got a call from a grandma yesterday about her 'broken' mouse

She was using the mouse upside down, the ball was on top and she thought it was just a weird trackball. I showed her how to flip it and plug it in right and she laughed for like 5 minutes straight. Anyone else ever get a call that was way simpler than it sounded?

Vent: Tried the 'couch surfing' thing in Portland and got scammed out of $50

I found this host on the app who had great reviews, so I paid the $50 verification fee they asked for upfront. Showed up at the address they gave, and it was just an abandoned building with a note taped to the door. The app support was useless, said they couldn't help because I paid outside the platform. Learned to never trust a host who asks for money before you meet them in person Has anyone else run into fake hosts on those budget stay sites?
