inQuestion about using a blue shampoo on a client with orange undertones
My friend Sarah had the same thing happen with blue shampoo turning her brassy highlights a muddy green. She ended up using a semi-permanent blue dye mixed with a ton of conditioner as a toner, left it for maybe three minutes. It neutralized the orange without going gray because the pigment was stronger. I mean, those color-depositing shampoos are really just for upkeep, not fixing a major problem. She learned the hard way you need something more concentrated when the orange is really bright.

inGot schooled on a 90s ska album by a record store guy in Portland
I get what you mean about the bass on that Hippos record, but for me the horns are still the main event. On "Far Behind" the trumpet line is what gets stuck in my head for days. The bass is great, but it just lays down the groove for the horns to really shine over.

Ever notice that's true for finding a good mechanic or a decent takeout spot too? You gotta dig past the obvious stuff.

inJust figured out my hammer angle was wrong for about a year
My cousin had that happen with a chisel. He was getting tear-out on every piece of pine for months, just figured the wood was cheap. A guy at the hardware store saw him testing a new chisel and asked if he ever sharpened the back. He'd only ever honed the bevel. Flattening the back changed everything overnight. Makes you wonder what else you're missing when you learn from a book and not a person, you know?
