Hot take: I gave my neighbor a heads-up about his dog barking all day versus just calling the landlord.
I live in a duplex in Springfield and his new puppy was howling from 8 AM to 5 PM while he was at work. I knocked on his door after three days of it, explained the situation, and he had no idea it was that bad. He started using a doggy daycare twice a week and the problem is mostly solved now. Is it always better to try the direct, personal approach before escalating to an authority figure?

It's wild how many problems are just from people not knowing there's a problem. We get so scared of being direct, but most folks aren't trying to be jerks. That personal talk fixes stuff way more than a formal complaint ever could.

Wait, @lopez.holly, you think most people aren't trying to be jerks?
