inI nearly cooked my GPU at a LAN party last Saturday
Freaked out when my buddy's rig started smoking at a small local tournament. He had this old case with a side panel barely closed, like the fan was being choked by the panel itself. Turns out the GPU fan was grinding against a loose cable he forgot to tie down. We had to rip the power cord out before it melted something. He was so embarrassed, spent the next hour rerouting everything and zip tying like crazy. Now I always check everyone's cable management before we even boot up, learned that lesson the hard way through him.

inStumbled into a junkyard in Nebraska and found $400 worth of parts under a pile of junk
Wait, you paid $400 for parts at a junkyard? Around here they charge by weight or a flat fee for whatever you pull off a car. I grabbed a set of calipers off a Taurus at Pick-N-Pull for twelve bucks last month. Might want to check if that place is charging you retail or something.

inMy sewing frame broke in the middle of a 16th century binding last night
That bit about the spider web of random clamps and hope really hit home (I think every maker has been there at some point). I actually read somewhere that a lot of those cheap plastic frames are made with recycled material that's way more brittle than what they used to use, so they snap under way less tension than you'd expect. My buddy had one go on him while he was stretching canvas for a painting, and the whole thing just cracked like a eggshell, sent his project flying across the garage. It's wild how much difference a solid metal frame makes, even on simple stuff. I remember hearing a guy on a podcast say that if you're working with anything thicker than a few layers of fabric, you're basically asking for trouble with the plastic ones.

inScorched my hands on a 500F sheet tray last Wednesday
Ha, you're probably right... but my luck it'll be one of those blisters that turns into a whole thing. Last time I got one I walked like a penguin for a week.

inCabling talk with an old timer changed my mind on tree supports
Actually it's 33% for red oaks, not 40%.
