Rant: my grandpa said nobody would ever pay to watch TV, and I brought it up at Thanksgiving
My grandpa worked at a TV repair shop in Erie, PA back in the 70s, and over turkey on Thursday he said the owner once bet the staff $50 that pay TV was a fad that would die out by 1985. My cousin laughed and pointed at her phone, and my grandpa just shrugged and said the guy also thought cable would never catch on because why pay for channels you get free with rabbit ears. What got me was how sure these guys were back then, standing around a shop full of tube testers, saying the future would never pay a dime for shows. It made me wonder what half the stuff we swear by now will look just as silly in 30 years. What's the prediction you heard from someone older that aged the worst?
