Spent 4 hours A/B testing landing page headlines, barely moved the needle

I ran a split test on my SaaS site's hero headline last week, pitting a benefit-driven line against a feature-focused one, and after 2,000 visitors the conversion difference was only 0.3%. Feels like I could have spent that time on improving page load speed or rewriting the CTA button instead. Has anyone else had A/B tests where the effort just wasn't worth the result?

TIL a simple content audit saved my blog traffic from falling off a cliff

I run a small fitness blog on the side, nothing fancy, maybe 500 visitors a day. Last month I noticed my traffic dropped about 30% and I couldn't figure out why. I checked analytics and saw a bunch of old posts from 2021 were just sitting there with broken links and outdated info. So I spent two weekends updating them - fixed the links, added current research, refreshed the titles. Now those same posts are pulling in more traffic than they ever did before. Has anyone else found that old content can outrank new stuff if you just clean it up a bit?

Stopped obsessing over frame rates after a friend's comment

I used to only play games at 60fps or higher and would skip anything capped at 30fps. My buddy told me I was missing out on great stories like Zelda Breath of the Wild just because of a number. Anyone else changed their mind about what makes a game actually fun?

Showerthought: Bogleheads are wrong about international stock allocation

I ran the numbers on 20 years of returns for a Vanguard total international fund vs the S&P 500 last weekend and found the international fund underperformed by over 2% annually, so why do people still think you need 30% or more in ex-US holdings when the data says otherwise?

Debated between Mailchimp and ConvertKit for my newsletter launch

I spent 3 days going back and forth on which email platform to use for my new weekly newsletter. Went with ConvertKit mainly because of the simpler automation setup and it paid off - my first welcome sequence had a 45% open rate. Anyone else struggle picking email tools or is it just me overthinking everything?

Warning: That one Tuesday last month almost made me quit barbering for good

I had a day where three guys in a row wanted the exact same fade pattern but all complained the line was too dark. Then a kid about 7 years old threw up all over my chair while I was doing his hard part. I spent 20 minutes cleaning it up and lost my next appointment slot. Right after that, a dude handed me a picture of a haircut he saw on Instagram that was physically impossible with his hair type. By 5pm I had only made 80 bucks after tipping out the shop. Any of you ever had a shift that made you question everything?

Cold water hit 45 feet off Louisiana and my regulator froze solid

Was doing a pipeline inspection in the Gulf last February and the water temp dropped way faster than forecast. Had to buddy breathe with the tender for 12 minutes while my backup iced up too. Anyone else deal with gear freezing in unexpected conditions?

That time I tried to fix a leaky pipe with duct tape at 2 AM

Last winter my kitchen sink pipe burst at like 2 in the morning during a freeze. I figured I'd be a hero and patch it with duct tape and a plastic grocery bag. Water sprayed everywhere for a solid 10 minutes before I gave up and called a plumber. He showed up, took one look, and just laughed while cutting out the whole section. Cost me $350 plus the emergency call fee because I couldn't wait till morning. Has anyone else attempted a 'temporary fix' that made things way worse?

Just crossed the 200 bathroom tile job mark yesterday

I've been doing bathroom renos around Edmonton for about 4 years now and somehow yesterday was my 200th tiling job. It was a small master bath in a 1970s bungalow near Whyte Ave. The homeowner asked me how many tiles I've laid total and I did the math in my head, came out to around 12,000 tiles. Has anyone else kept count of a random milestone like that or am I just weird?

Spent a year butchering my own chicken stock, then a chef buddy showed me the shortcut

I used to simmer stock for 8 hours for that rich color, but it always came out cloudy. Then a buddy who works at The Catbird Seat in Nashville told me to just roast the bones at 400F for 45 minutes first. Now I get that deep brown color in 4 hours flat and it tastes way cleaner. Anyone else have a simple step that saved you hours?
