Showerthought: rewatching The Grinder on Hulu after 9 days off, and the back half feels like a totally different show
So I pulled up The Grinder last week and blew through season 1 in about 3 sittings, and something felt off. Episodes 1 through 10 have Dean as this washed up actor who actually knows nothing about law, which is the whole joke, and then around episode 13 he suddenly becomes weirdly good at it and the show gets way softer. I looked it up and Fox cut the order from 22 to 18 and moved it to a dead Friday slot in early 2016, so the writers probably knew it was done and started wrapping things up. Here is my debate for you all: is a show better off with a rushed soft ending that tries to give fans closure, or should it just go out swinging like it always did and leave us mad? Season 2 would have fixed all of this if it got one more run. Anyone know if the Rob Lowe thing was always planned as a 2 season arc or did the cancellation force their hand?
Man, this is just like a restaurant that finds out it's closing and suddenly starts giving out free dessert instead of fixing the actual food. You see it everywhere, a place knows the end is coming so it stops being itself and tries to be what it thinks people want. I'd rather a show go down fighting with the same voice it always had, because a fake happy ending just makes the whole ride feel like a lie.
