My AI art looked like a melted clown at the county fair

I was showing my cousin's kids how AI art works at the county fair last Saturday. Typed in 'happy family picnic' and the thing generated a family where the dad had 3 arms and the dog looked like a melted hot dog. The kids thought it was hilarious but I felt like a total fraud trying to explain it's 'art.' Has anyone else had AI spit out something so bad it made you question the whole thing?

Nearly ruined my sleeper build by picking a PSU that didn't fit

I was torn between a modular PSU for cable management or a non-modular one that fit in my old Dell Optiplex case. Went with the non-modular and it took me 2 hours of shoving cables into a 3.5 inch drive bay to get the side panel on. Anybody else deal with PSU clearance issues in these old cases?

My neighbor in Phoenix showed me why she waters at 3am

Last summer I complained to my neighbor Carol about my skyrocketing water bill from watering my lawn at noon. She laughed and said she only waters between 3 and 5am when evaporation is almost zero. She showed me her setup with a simple $20 timer from Home Depot and her bill was $40 less than mine that month. Has anyone else found that shifting watering times actually made a real dent in their utility costs?

Landlord tried to charge me $300 for carpet cleaning I did myself

My old landlord in Austin tried to bill me $300 for professional carpet cleaning after I moved out, even though I had receipts showing I rented a Rug Doctor and did it myself for $35. I used to just pay whatever they asked, but now I take time-stamped photos before and after any cleaning or repairs. Anybody else deal with landlords trying to double charge for work you already did?

Shoutout to my backup starter for saving my Sunday bake

My KitchenAid motor burned out halfway through mixing a double batch of sourdough last weekend. Had to finish by hand for 20 minutes, and my arms are still sore. Anyone else keep a spare mixer around just in case?

My friend claimed a $50 case is fine for airflow, I disagree after my last build.

I was at Microcenter last week and overheard a guy telling his buddy that any cheap case works if you just add more fans. I built my last rig in a $50 case and my GPU hit 85C under load until I drilled holes in the front panel myself. Does anyone else think case design matters way more than fan count for keeping temps down?

Hot take: Not every brown spot on a leaf means you need to water it more

I see this all the time in houseplant groups and it drives me nuts. Someone posts a pic of a few brown tips and ten people immediately say 'needs more water.' Last month my snake plant got brown edges and I actually checked the roots first. Turned out I was overwatering and the roots were starting to rot. Took me cutting back to once every three weeks to fix it. Has anyone else noticed people jumping to watering advice way too fast?

That $600 home inspection course I bought was a complete waste

Spent $600 on a home inspection prep course thinking it would give me an edge for real estate. Turned out half the material was about furnaces and foundations, nothing about Edmonton's specific frost heave issues. Anyone else find a better resource for local building quirks?

TIL I was holding my drafting pencil completely wrong for 8 years

Been drafting for almost a decade now. Last Tuesday my coworker, an old guy named Dave who's been at this since the 80s, watched me sketch out a floor plan and just laughed. He said my grip was killing my line quality and causing my hand to cramp. I was gripping the pencil near the tip like a writing pen, putting all my pressure on the side. He showed me how to hold it further back, almost parallel to the paper, and use my whole arm to draw straight lines. Tried it on a quick elevation drawing and the difference was insane. My lines came out smooth and clean for the first time. Has anyone else had an old timer call out a bad habit you never noticed?

Visited Yosemite last month and it hit me how useless my old rain fly was

I went up to Yosemite last month for a 4 day trip, and the second night a storm rolled in around 2 AM. My six year old rain fly turned into a puddle catcher instead of shedding water, and I woke up with my sleeping bag soaked and my tent floor floating. The weight of the wet gear on my pack the next morning was brutal, maybe 5 extra pounds of water. That experience made me realize I've been cheaping out on something that's literally the difference between a good trip and a miserable one. I spent 4 hours drying everything out by a fire and still had damp socks for two days. So now I'm wondering, what rain fly material actually holds up in heavy rain without weighing a ton? I'm budgeting around $80 to replace it. Has anyone else had a similar wake up call with their shelter gear?
