My grinder's burr collar stripped at 6:15am and I had to hand crank a light roast for 12 minutes
The plastic collar on my hand grinder gave out Tuesday morning right when I needed coffee most, so I grabbed a wrench and just held the burr steady while cranking. Took me 12 full minutes to get 22 grams for a pour over, and my arm was shaking by the end. I'm not babying these grinders anymore, I think the fancy ones with metal threads are overpriced and the cheap workhorses actually hold up better if you don't overload them. This is the second grinder I've killed in 14 months, both times on light roasts that needed a finer setting. I ordered a replacement collar for $9 but honestly I'm wondering if I should just switch to a blade grinder and stop pretending I can taste the difference. Anyone got a grinder that's survived more than two years of daily light roast duty?
