Finally bought that $400 thermal camera for tracing door operator heat issues.

Got a cheap borescope for my phone a while back. Lets me see inside walls and under floors without cutting holes. Found a mouse nest blocking a vent that was killing our AC efficiency.

My old gas mower finally gave out in the middle of my yard last weekend

Honestly, that sounds like a huge step backwards. A reel mower just can't handle a real lawn with any kind of thick grass or weeds. You'll spend more time going over the same spot than actually mowing, and good luck if you miss a week.

I always thought the old green sand mix was fine, but trying a new binder changed my mind.

We had a similar thing with our facing sand. Boss insisted on the old coal dust mix for years, said it gave a better finish. Finally tried a cellulose substitute and the shakeout was so much cleaner, less smoke too. He still grumbles about it being "newfangled" every time he orders a pallet.

Shoutout to the crew that switched from a 4-inch to a 6-inch cutterhead on our old ladder dredge

Wow, that's a huge jump. I read a case study from a gravel operation that did the same switch on a smaller dredge. They talked about the bigger head letting them take a fuller cut without bogging down, so the swing speed could actually increase. Their production went up almost 40 percent, just like yours. Makes total sense.

I finally understood what my old foreman meant about 'listening to the cut' after a quiet morning in the Cincinnati shop.

That quiet river sound you mentioned, what does it actually feel like in your hands? Is it more of a steady vibration or just the total lack of chatter?
