Rant: Should we trust factory wiring diagrams or just go by what we see on the bench?

Last month in Denver, I had a Cessna 172 where the factory diagram said the landing gear indicator wires should be on pins 4 and 6. But when I traced it, the actual plane had them on pins 3 and 7 from a previous repair. I ended up spending 3 hours troubleshooting because I trusted the book over my own eyes. How do you guys handle it when the schematics don't match reality, do you follow the diagram or trust what's in front of you?

Wasted $300 on a power stretcher I barely use now

I bought a brand new power stretcher last spring thinking it would speed up my installs. Spent around $300 on it because the rental fees were adding up. Turns out for the kind of residential work I do most rooms are small enough that my knee kicker does the job fine. That power stretcher has sat in my truck for maybe 8 months now. I only pull it out for really wide rooms or commercial jobs which is maybe once a month. Should have just kept renting it when I needed it. Anyone else drop cash on a tool you thought you'd use way more than you actually do?

Installed 200 sq ft of herringbone pattern this week and only messed up twice

I finished a parlor floor in a 1920s house over in Oak Park. The homeowner wanted a herringbone layout with solid white oak. I had to recut maybe two pieces near the hearth because my angles were off. Made me realize I should draw the pattern on the subfloor first instead of just winging it from the wall. Has anyone else found a trick for keeping those little pieces locked tight during glue-down?

Debate: Should digital art showcases include process videos or just the final piece?

I was scrolling through a showcase on ArtStation last night and saw someone's comment saying process videos are 'lazy distractions' that take away from the final image. Then another person replied that without seeing the steps, it's just 'another pretty picture with no soul.' That got me thinking. I personally like seeing the layers build up because it helps me learn techniques, but I get how it could clutter a clean gallery. What side are you on for a showcase like this one? Do you want the whole process or just the finished result?

For years I'd just stop listening once the single ended, but last month I found this old CD by a band called The Clocksprings at a thrift store in Tacoma. I let it play all the way through while driving and the final song, 'The Last Goodbye', completely changed the album's whole mood. It's a slow, sad piano piece that made me realize the earlier upbeat songs were all about avoiding that feeling. Now I always listen to the full album, even the hidden tracks. Anyone else have an album where the last song totally reframed everything?

Found a whole box of old fishing lures at a sale in Spokane and it got me thinking

I was at an estate sale off Monroe Street last month and bought a dusty cardboard box for five bucks, only to find it was packed with vintage wooden lures from the 50s. Now I'm sorting them and realizing I have no idea how to tell what's actually valuable versus just old junk. How do you guys figure out what you've really got when you find a collection like that?

Walked through the antique mall in Springfield and saw a whole shelf of 'for parts' cameras.

I was there last weekend and they had maybe fifteen old SLRs, mostly Pentax K1000s, all marked as broken. The guy running the booth said they were 'untested' but every one I picked up had obvious shutter issues or fungus in the lens. It's frustrating because someone will buy one thinking it's a cheap fix and get in way over their head. Anyone know a good way to explain to people what 'for parts' really means on these old finds?
