Serious question, the day my hens stopped laying tipped me off about my coop venting
Production dropped from 5 eggs a day to 1 in about a 10 day stretch back in February and I blamed feed, then molting, then the cold. A neighbor stopped by with his moisture meter, poked it into the coop wall and it peeped at 22 percent, so he asked if my only vent was that little window I crack open in summer. Turns out I had 4 hens sitting in damp air all winter with the pop door shut tight and frost building on the roost bars. I cut two 12 inch vents up high under the eaves and lined the inside with hardware cloth and egg count came back within 2 weeks. What is your vent square footage per bird, and does anyone run a hybrid setup with vents plus a small fan?
