I was the only one who refused to top that oak in Springfield

A homeowner in Springfield wanted a 60-foot pin oak topped because he was scared of a storm. Every other crew there said it was fine, just charge for the work. I walked off the job. The next spring, that tree was covered in weak, fast-growing water sprouts and looked awful. It's been five years and it's still a hazard. When did 'customer is always right' become more important than the tree's health?

He was serious, and said his Rhode Island Reds always chose the red feeder over the green one. Has anyone else noticed their birds showing a weird preference like that?

My sister said she watches new shows on 1.5x speed to 'get through them faster'

We were talking about that new sci-fi series, and she said she speeds through the slow parts. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but that feels like you're missing the whole point of a binge, you know? Has anyone else heard of people doing this?

Just realized my old way of ramming up a small flask was costing me an hour a day

I used to pack the sand by hand in sections, but after watching a guy at the old Milwaukee foundry use a pneumatic rammer on a pattern this size, I switched six months ago and now a job that took 90 minutes is done in 30, so what's one small change that saved you a ton of time?

Just wasted $40 on a 'universal' sink drain wrench that didn't fit anything

The jaws were too thick to get into the tight space under my kitchen sink. Ended up using a pair of channel locks I already had in five minutes. Anyone know a good brand for a truly low-profile basin wrench?

A foreman in Tacoma told me my mortar was too dry for the weather and it clicked

We were laying a 12 foot garden wall last October and I was mixing my mud pretty stiff, like I always do. The foreman, a guy named Ray, walked over, squeezed a trowel full, and said 'You're gonna lose bond in three hours with this mix, it's 55 degrees and damp.' He was right, the first course started to sag by lunch. Now I always check the air temp and humidity before I even open a bag. Anyone else have a simple rule they changed after getting called out on site?

Honestly, the glue-down LVP jobs in Phoenix look way different now than they did five years ago.

Tbh, back around 2019, you'd see a lot of hollow spots and edge lift after the first hot summer. The adhesive formulas just couldn't handle the 115-degree heat. Now, with the newer pressure-sensitive acrylics, like the one from Roberts, the planks stay flat and tight. Has anyone else noticed a specific adhesive that's held up better in extreme heat?
