Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say he got his best stock tip from a finance forum's 'off-topic' section

I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but that feels like a weird place to take serious money advice from. Has anyone else seen legit info pop up in those random chat threads?

Sounds like how I get my best tech advice from the memes channel.

Last year I would have said that was a terrible way to learn anything technical. Then I saw a specific meme about SSH key permissions that solved a problem I'd been stuck on for two hours. The joke format made the actual fix impossible to forget. Now I check those channels first because the good stuff gets upvoted fast. It cuts through all the overly complex blog posts.

Haha that's actually wild but @jesse84 makes a good point - I've found some surprisingly solid advice in random threads too. Maybe the off-topic section is where all the real geniuses hang out lmao.
