My small business page hit 1000 followers and it wasn't what I expected

I run a painting crew and started a page for it about a year ago. I just wanted a place to show our work. I posted maybe once a week, just photos of finished jobs. I checked the numbers yesterday and saw we hit 1000 followers. I was happy, but then I looked closer. Only about 20 people ever like a post, and maybe 2 comment. It hit me that the number doesn't mean anything if they aren't really paying attention. I was just collecting a big number without a plan. Now I'm trying to figure out how to actually talk to those 1000 people instead of just posting at them. Has anyone else had a follower count that felt empty? What did you do to make it feel real?

Maybe 20 real fans are worth more than a thousand ghosts.

See this everywhere now. People collect friends on social media but don't know their neighbors. They have a thousand contacts in their phone but no one to call at 2am. That follower number is just like a full email inbox, it feels big but means nothing without a real connection. You have to stop broadcasting and start asking questions in your posts, like "what color would you pick for this room?" It turns viewers into people.

Eh, maybe it's not that deep. Some people are just fine with a lot of casual online friends.
