Bought a cheap camp stove fuel pump for $15 and it ruined a trip
Last fall I went car camping in the White Mountains. My old stove started to sputter, so I grabbed a new fuel pump from a discount bin. It worked okay for about ten minutes before it completely failed, leaving me with cold food. I had to drive forty minutes to the nearest town to get a proper replacement. Has anyone found a decent budget pump that actually holds up?

I saw a review on an outdoor gear site that said the Coleman pumps are hit or miss. The person had two fail in a row, but the third one lasted years. Maybe it's just a total luck thing with the cheaper ones.

Is it really that big of a deal if a cheap pump fails? They're like twenty bucks. Just buy another one and you're still ahead compared to the fancy brands.

Disagree with that take honestly. Like @angela_coleman said, it's a luck thing, and that's the real cost, the hassle when it breaks at the wrong time. I'd rather pay for something that works when I need it.
