Am I the only one who thinks a cheap tarp beats a fancy footprint every time?
I got tired of paying $40 for site-specific footprints so I grabbed a $8 blue tarp from Home Depot, cut it to size with scissors, and after 30 nights out it's held up better than the brand name one my buddy uses.

Oh man, @cole_bailey85, my buddy learned that one the hard way when his tarp took off like a kite!

Does that tarp turn into a sail in a strong wind?

Honestly, I think you're way overthinking this. A tarp like that can definitely catch wind and turn into a big problem if you don't secure it right. I've seen people's setups get completely wrecked because they didn't tie things down well enough. Just make sure you stake it low and tight, and maybe angle it so the wind can pass over instead of catching underneath. A couple of extra tent pegs and some paracord go a long way to keep it from turning into a sail. It's not a deal breaker, but you gotta be smart about it.
