Rebuilding the whole database seems like overkill for one crash. Mine glitches out every few weeks but a quick restart always fixes it. Are you sure the database was actually corrupted or maybe the install just had some weird setting? Two hours of work just to watch a show feels like a lot.

Weird that the outlet looked way newer than everything else. Did you check the rest of the closet for more fake plates or loose baseboards? I bet whoever hid that stuff figured it was safe but left other clues around the house if you look close.

haha dude i feel that. i've got a decade old multimeter that's missing half the rubber boot and the probes are held together with electrical tape. the funny part is i accidentally shocked myself with it last week trying to test a live circuit on a power supply and it still works fine. fancy gear won't save you from your own dumb mistakes i guess.

Is a flooded tent really the end of the world though? I mean yeah it sucks waking up wet but you just dry out your stuff and move on. You still had a whole week and ended up in a cabin which sounds like an upgrade to me. Old gear failing is just part of the deal when you buy used stuff you don't know the history of. I've slept in a damp sleeping bag for two nights because my tarp ripped and I didn't cry about it online.
