Warning: Quick-dry towels at my local shop are so thin now they tear like tissue paper.

Is it just cheap materials or is everything getting flimsier on purpose? I've noticed the same thing with some camping gear lately, where it feels like you're paying for the brand name more than the actual product. It really does seem like a race to make things as thin and cheap as possible.

I read that 'race to make things cheap' is done on purpose.

Feel this in my bones. They build stuff to break now so you have to buy it again next year. It's not about giving you a good deal, it's about making sure you keep coming back. My old coffee maker lasted ten years and my new one died in two. So where does that leave us, just paying more over time? What was the last thing you bought that just fell apart?
