The drought is killing my favorite park

Ngl, it hurts to see. I grew up playing in that green space. Now, it's just patches of dirt. Summers keep getting hotter. When will we start to act on this?

Yeah, that dry creek bed image really got me. My backyard was turning into that same crispy brown mess. What finally helped was saving the water from rinsing vegetables and my pasta pot, just dumping it on the most thirsty plants. Also, I stopped fighting it and put in some native plants from a local sale. They don't need much water at all now that they're settled in. It's a tiny fix, but my little spot is still green.

Started saving every bit of rainwater I could catch in some old barrels last year. It felt silly at first, but when the heat hit, I had enough to keep my garden boxes alive. Honestly, just focusing on the plants I could actually help made the bigger problem feel less hopeless. Even a couple of those barrels let me give the young trees a deep drink once a week. Tbh, it's not fixing the park, but it keeps my own little patch from turning to dust.

Ugh, tell me about it. I was just there and it's not even patches of dirt yet, it's all that sad, crispy brown grass. Even the little creek bed is totally dry, which I've never seen before. It really does feel like a preview of a much worse normal, not just a bad year. We're already acting, just in the wrong direction.
