After three hours of soldering on that PSU I thought I'd fixed the flickering screen, but plugging it in just made a loud pop and now my living room smells like burnt electronics, has anyone else had a recap go sideways like that?
I was digging through a pile of cables at the Goodwill on 12th Street last weekend and this dude walks past the CRT section with his kid and says 'don't bother with that e-waste junk, it's not worth the floor space.' I bit my tongue but man, I wanted to ask him if he's ever played a light gun game on a modern flat screen. The lag alone makes it unplayable. I grabbed a 2002 Dell Trinitron for 8 bucks and it works perfectly. Am I wrong for thinking CRTs still have a place or is this guy just clueless?
I've been trying to fix this 1960s Grundig tabletop radio for weeks. The hum would never go away no matter what caps I swapped. Finally read a post about wrapping the power cord around a ferrite core. Did that last night with a core from an old monitor cable. Worked way better than I expected. Anyone else find simple noise fixes for tube gear?
