I used a font from a 1970s cookbook for a client's logo and it worked way better than expected.
The client wanted something 'retro but fresh' for their new bakery, so I pulled a typeface called 'Bistro' from an old community cookbook I found at a garage sale. The unexpected warmth and slight irregularity gave the whole brand a handmade feel we couldn't get with a clean digital font. Has anyone else found great design elements in totally non-design places?

Guess I should hit more garage sales and less design blogs, lmao. The_anna has a point about luck, but finding that weird, perfect thing feels like a win anyway. My best stuff usually comes from looking in the wrong places.

Okay but is it that deep? It's just a font from a book. People act like finding a typeface is some huge creative breakthrough, but you just got lucky at a garage sale.
