How a bad sandwich turned me into a deli believer

I always got pre-packaged lunch meat. Deli counters seemed too expensive. After I ate a fresh turkey sandwich from the counter, the taste was way fresher. Now I never skip the deli line.

My local grocery store's deli section changed my mind last year. I tried their fresh roast beef and it was so much better than the packaged kind. Do you have a favorite deli meat now?

Yeah that "way fresher" taste is no joke. I was in the same boat with the sad, slimy pre-packaged ham. The texture is just off. Getting it sliced thin right in front of you changes everything, it actually tastes like real meat. I can't go back to the sealed plastic stuff now, it tastes like salty rubber. The deli counter is worth the extra two minutes for sure.

Why was I so stubborn about avoiding the deli counter? I used to think I was too cool for that line, but really I was just missing out. @rowank69 nailed it with the salty rubber comment, because that's exactly what the old stuff tastes like once you've had the real deal. Now I'm that guy waiting patiently, knowing it's totally worth it.
