Hot take: The new park benches downtown are a social experiment

I was walking through Mill River Park this morning and noticed they replaced all the old benches with these single seat ones. They're just wide enough for one person, spaced about ten feet apart. It completely changes how people use the space. No one's sitting and talking anymore, everyone's just on their phone alone. Did the city plan this, or did they just get a deal on weird benches?

Honestly that tracks. Tbh I'd probably still try to nap on one and end up on the ground.

Oh man, that reminds me of when I tried to sleep on one of those weird curved park benches downtown. The thing was designed like a giant potato chip. I woke up with a cramp in my neck and my wallet had slid out of my pocket and was sitting on the ground next to me. Never again.

Looks like they're trying to stop homeless people from sleeping there.
